Why Tour with Us to Experience Locales from Hitchcock's "The Birds"?

Why tour with A Friend in Town and not just rent your own car? Because driving yourself, you'll waste time figuring out exactly where everything is, and you'll be tired when you get there. With us, you'll learn the history of the places in which the characters lived and Hitchcock worked, while enjoying the views.

There are so many reasons why we're your best choice for a trip north to "Birds" country!

Our Hitchcock's "The Birds" Tour Itinerary

We travel north across the Golden Gate Bridge through beautiful Marin and into Sonoma County, stopping at a celebrated country bakery in a quaint hamlet, before arriving at the notorious Potter School. Here we take pictures and (if we can arrange it) a tour of the classroom. We then approach Bodega Bay on the route that Melanie took and stop at the restaurant that houses the most memorabilia from the film.

The town's a great place for lunch looking across the bay while enjoying the freshest possible seafood. Afterwards we take another lovely backroad to the picturesque Victorian town of Occidental—which has nothing to do with the movie, but everything to do with its unique beauty. These unspoiled landscapes retain much of the otherworldly ambience that beguiled Hitchcock.

Mid- and late afternoon offers many options: driving through Santa Rosa's Victorian neighborhood to see the house from "Shadow of a Doubt"; a visit to the Charles M. Schultz Museum where we smile at the many depictions of Snoopy's friend Woodstock; time in the garden devoted to botanical pioneer Luther Burbank; tasting at one or 2 of the Russian River region's great wineries; watching a demonstration of how they band wild birds at the Pt. Reyes Bird Observatory; walking in Audubon Canyon Ranch, a preserve for nesting egrets; viewing dozens of bird species as they settle in the Bolinas Lagoon—all this, without a single pecked-out eye or bleeding torso. :-)

What will it Cost?

Because each tour is designed to fit your interests, our fees vary. Basically you pay by the number of hours in your itinerary. We do not add the fuel surcharges, "license fees," "tax" and mandatory gratuities that many other companies do.

Click Here to find out more about how we determine your fee. FYI, the most popular version of our "Birds" tour runs 8-10 hours—shorter if that suits your availability best.
