What's a Skunk Train? An old steam train once famous for its smell, now renovated to take passengers comfortably over long, tall trestles and rushing rivers, in a second-growth redwood forest.* In addition to that exciting half-day trip, we offer you Mendocino—a charming New England-style village sited on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. You'll explore its art galleries, historic cottages, fine restaurants, and hiking trails—perhaps even spot a passing whale.
On the way there we lunch in quaint Boonville (a town known for developing its own language), as we wind through the Anderson Valley Wine Country, famous for its pinot noirs and superior champagnes...and almost unbearably beautiful! scenery. On the way back, we may have time to visit an outdoor spa for a mineral bath and massage or an early dinner at an excellent country inn.
* The Skunk Train runs from Ft. Bragg and back from May to October, its modern equivalent a few weeks earlier and later.
