You want to experience the California coast you've heard to much about! So we're headed south to picturesque Monterey and Carmel, the famous 17-Mile Drive & Pebble Beach...all the way to the Bixby Bridge on Big Sur, or the spectacular McWay Falls, or the Santa Cruz Boardwalk...or just to see the monarch butterfly sanctuary in Pacific Grove. Often it can be too foggy in the morning to enjoy vistas, so we usually don't join the famous Pacific Coast Highway until midday--in order to reach the most scenic areas sooner. Head north and you get to explore what locals consider a very special place called West Marin. Or go even further to quaint Mendocino (a New England-style town on a oceanside cliff, famous for its folk art) and the beautiful Anderson Valley (famous for its wineries and breweries). Maybe you want to spend the night, and with two days available, walk in the bracing ocean air, ride horseback, linger in art galleries, take a whale watching trip, sink into a hot tub. You'll remember The PCH with an afterglow.
